PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic still camera which avoids wasteful use of the memory areas of an image memory medium at continuous shooting. SOLUTION: A photographic mode selecting means allows a photographer to select a continuous shooting. An imaging means photographs the image of an object. A range setting means detects the moving target, based on the image photographed by the imaging means, and sets the size and the position of a photographic target range involving the detected target. A memory means stores the image in the target range as a target image. In the continuous shooting of the moving target, the size of the target image can be changed every continuous shooting, in accordance with the change of the moving target image size relative to the imaging screen of the imaging means, thereby avoiding wasteful use of the memory areas of the memory means.
