PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a protocol macro setting device capable of easily setting a plurality of protocol macros. SOLUTION: This protocol macro setting device is adapted to generate a serial communication procedure including a communication frame structure as a protocol macro, and set a protocol macro set composed of a plurality of protocol macros to a programmable controller having serial communication function. This device comprises a basic frame setting means making, with respect to a communication frame composed of one or more frame elements, a user select a frame structure therefor and holding the selected frame structure as a basic frame; a macro storing means holding the protocol macro set; a macro setting means adding a new protocol macro adapting the basic frame as the frame structure to the protocol macro set; and a frame changing means for changing the frame structure for the protocol macros held by the macro storage means.
