PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an aromatic carboxylic acid with which energy possessed by a separation mother liquor is effectively utilized and an active component dissolved in the mother liquor is effectively recovered when the separated mother liquor obtained by carrying out solid-liquid separation of an oxidation reaction slurry in a high-temperature and a high-pressure state at the high temperature under the high pressure is treated in the method for producing the aromatic carboxylic acid from an alkyl aromatic compound. SOLUTION: A pressure state above atmospheric pressure pressurized in an oxidation step is retained in steps thereafter in production steps of the aromatic carboxylic acid having the oxidation step (11), a recovery step (14), recycling steps (H and I) and concentrating steps (16, 17 and 18). The pressure is utilized in concentration (16) in the concentrating steps.
