PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric parking brake device capable of reducing uneasiness of dashing out of a vehicle on a downhill while preventing descending of the vehicle on an uphill. SOLUTION: The electric parking brake device 1 automatically releases a parking brake 19 of a stick shift. The device 1 automatically releases the parking brake 19 when a road surface is inclined, the returning operation of a clutch pedal is detected, and the step-in operation of an accelerator pedal is detected. On the other hand, when the road surface is downhill in the advancing direction of a vehicle, the parking brake 19 is automatically released by detecting the returning operation of the clutch pedal without any step-in operation of the accelerator pedal. By the latter configuration, uneasiness of dashing out of the vehicle when the vehicle is started on the downhill can be reduced. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
