PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect and remove a document shadow that take different states, depending on the document or a black part (shadow generated by releasing a pressure plate) on the outside of the document, without damaging the document image. SOLUTION: Outside a dashed line on a drawing showing a scanner reading image when printing is performed on a sheet somewhat larger than a document is set as a black data detection object range. Furthermore, a condition of continuous state of black data is attached so that document data are excluded from becoming an object for removal from the detected black data. Black data continuous from the document end are one condition of object being removed ((1) and (3) in the Figure), but black data continuous inwardly from the outside of detection object range are excluded from object of removal ((3) in the Figure). Consequently, processing can be performed not to remove the document image ((2) and (3) in the drawing) but to remove only the document shadow ((1) in the Figure). COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
