摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an excellent contour enhancement effect even if dynamic γ correction processing is performed on a contour enhanced video signal, and to obtain excellent contour enhancement effects even in various γ characteristics. SOLUTION: A contour component (b) is detected from an input video signal (a). On the basis of features of a video scene detected by a scene feature detection section 421, a γ correction curve is calculated and stored in a dynamic γ correction RAM table 423 and an inverse gradient RAM table 414. A gain control section 412 multiplies a control signal β from the inverse gradient RAM table 414 by the contour component (b) to generate a contour enhancement signal (c), and adds the contour enhancement signal with the video signal (a) to obtain a contour enhanced signal (d). The inverse gradient RAM table 414 sends an inverse of a gradient of a γ correction curve corresponding to a signal level of the inputted video signal (a) to the gain control section 412 as a control signal β.
