<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the lowering of productivity by preventing the occurrence of ghost by recovering toner left after transfer in the case of image data having the high maximum value of image density and by preventing the unnecessary discharge of recovered toner from a temporary toner recovering/discharging means in the case of image data having the low maximum value of image density. <P>SOLUTION: The number of sheets set as an interval to perform a cleaning mode is selected based on applied voltage to a cleaning roll and the cumulative number of pixels. Since the cumulative number of pixels is a value correlated to the amount of use of the toner adhering to a photoreceptor drum 16, the amount of the toner (reversal toner and toner left after transfer) left on the cleaning roll 26 becomes larger as the cumulative number of pixels gets larger. Hence, the number of sheets set as the intervals is reduced as the maximum image density gets high and the cumulative number of pixels gets large, whereby the intervals are shortened and the cleaning performance of the cleaning roll 26 is kept. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
