PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metallic member which reduces the consumption of noble metals such as Au and Pb, extends the the service life of an electric contact and has an excellent wear resistance, and to provide the electric contact using the same. SOLUTION: The metallic member is constituted by forming a first plating layer composed of Ni and inevitable impurities on the surface of a metallic substrate, forming a second plating layer composed of Ni and P and inevitable impurities on the first plating layer, forming a third plating layer composed of a gold alloy and inevitable impurities on the second plating layer, and forming a fourth layer by a sealing treatment on the third plating layer. In such metallic member, the thickness (T1) of the first plating layer is specified to 0.5μm≤T1≤2.5μm, the thickness (T2) of the second plating layer to 0.05μm≤T2≤0.5μm, the sum of the thicknesses (T1+T2) of the first plating layer and the second plating layer to 0.60μm≤T1+T2≤2.5μm, and the thickness (T3) of the third plating layer to≥0.05μm.
