PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent failure in recording due to the shortage of a free space in a video recorder using a hard disk. SOLUTION: In a duplex recording device in which its hard disk is duplicated for handling a case of failure and a video recorder, the duplication is temporally cancelled to ensure capacity when the shortage of capacity occurs. The duplication is not made to the whole hard disk, but is made in units of files, and consequently the number of files lost when a failure occurs in the hard disk is minimized.
