PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing paper, by which the paper having a remarkably increased strength can be produced at a high speed in the improved yields of a filler and paper-making chemicals. SOLUTION: This method for producing the paper is characterized by adding a carboxymethyl cellulose salt and/or a carboxyethyl cellulose salt each having a substitution degree of 0.3 to 0.6 to a slurry comprising beat pulp fibers, adding a mineral acid to the mixture to adjust the pulp slurry to pH 2 to 6, thus converting the carboxymethyl cellulose salt and/or the carboxyethyl cellulose salt to the acid types to make the pulp to adsorb the products, and then making the paper from the pulp fiber slurry comprising the obtained pulp, the paper-making chemicals containing a paper-reinforcing agent, and the filler with a paper machine.
