PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a maraging steel, which makes the size of nonmetallic inclusions finer, and to provide the maraging steel having the fined nonmetallic inclusions obtained with the method. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the maraging steel includes preparing a consumable electrode for vacuum remelting by previously adding 2 to 300 ppm Mg into the consumable electrode, and vacuum-remelting the maraging steel with the use of the consumable electrode, in a process of manufacturing the maraging steel containing, by mass%, 0.2% or more Ti. The maraging steel obtained with the method includes, by mass%, 0.2-2.0% Ti and 1-5 ppm Mg, and contains non-metallic inclusions mainly containing Ti-based nitrides with the maximum length of 10μm or less.
