PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel method for producing a substituted butadiene derivative-aromatic vinyl compound copolymer which allows copolymerization of the substituted butadiene derivative such as isoprene and the aromatic vinyl compound such as styrene at random by solution polymerization with a high polymerization velocity. SOLUTION: The method for producing the substituted butadiene derivative-aromatic vinyl compound copolymer comprises copolymerization of the substituted butadiene derivative and the aromatic vinyl compound in an inactive organic solvent in the presence of an ether compound of a specific structure using an organo-lithium compound as a polymerization initiator.
