PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide polyethylene that has excellent process fitness to slurry polymerization, good morphology and excellent properties, namely the fabrication properties of low density polyethylene together with mechanical strength and melt-drawing properties of high-density polyethylene and straight-chain low-density polyethylene and provide the method for the polyethylene. SOLUTION: [Process step I] ethylene and arbitrary olefin of 3 or more carbon atoms are slurry-polymerized in the presence of a catalyst comprising a metallocene compound, a modified clay compound, when necessary, an organoaluminum to prepare macromonomer, [process step II] as continuously adding a catalyst including a metallocene compound, as main components, ethylene, the macromonomer prepared at the step I and arbitrary olefin of 3 or more carbon atoms are copolymerized.
