PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a route-switching apparatus in a network capable of realizing multiplexing and load distribution of a path, by using an inexpensive VRRP (Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol RFC2328) non-corresponding router, in place of a VRRP corresponding router. SOLUTION: A route-switching apparatus 25 is in a network in which routes 21, 23 are provided between a LAN 4 and an external network 5, in order to connect user terminals 1, 2, 3 connected to the LAN 4 and functioning as a host to the external network 5, and the user terminals 1, 2, 3 perform communication using one of the routes. The apparatus 25 is provided with a route-selecting condition setting means 31 for setting a route-selecting condition, a communication status checking means 32 for checking the communication status of the routes 21, 23, a connection route selecting means 33 for selecting a connection path, on the basis of the set route selecting condition and the communication status of the routes 21, 23, and a connection route notifying means 34 for notifying the user terminals 1, 2, 3 of the selected connection route to use this connection route for this communication.
