PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method of associative retrieval capable of sharply enhancing a relevance factor of a retrieval result. SOLUTION: The retrieval system which retrieves collection of documents by using one or more retrieval words, is provided with a category dictionary which stores category information to which morphology constituting the documents belongs by hierarchical structure, morphological ID arrangement in which the collection is converted into collection of fixed length IDs according to the morphology as holding order information of the morphology and a retrieval part which retrieves the morphological ID arrangement, wherein the retrieval part retrieves the one that category information to which any of the morphology cooccurring with the retrieval word belongs is applicable to retrieval category information.
