PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure stable adhesion regardless of the kind of a sealing compound, a putty material and an overcoating material in finishing a wall made of multiple dry boards with painting materials. SOLUTION: The method for applying a building wall comprises (1) filling joints between adjacent dry boards with the sealing compound and/or the putty material, (2) coating the whole surface including the dry board and the joint with an undercoating material containing a synthetic resin emulsion of a glass transition temperature of -40°C to 40°C that is obtained by polymerizing a monomer mixture composed of 70 to 95% by weight of a hydrophobic monomer (i) and 5 to 30% by weight of a hydrophilic monomer(ii) comprising an epoxy group-containing monomer, a monomer that can react with the epoxy group, and other monomers, wherein the molar ratio of the epoxy group-containing monomer/the total hydrophilic monomer (ii) is not less than 0.5 and the molar ratio of the monomer that can react with the epoxy group/the total hydrophilic monomer (ii) is not more than 0.05, and (3) coating the whole surface including the dry board and the joint with the overcoating material.
