The indicator includes a sensor system for detecting the pre-set value. A control, monitoring and evaluation unit, and an electronic display are also provided. The sensor system is a distance measuring system which is absolute, incremental or a combination of the two. The distance measuring system comprises a scale on a moving part of the setting device. The control, monitoring and evaluation unit is implemented by a microcontroller system with a clock and monitoring device. The electronic display is preferably an LCD.
