METHOD, DEVICE, AND PROGRAM FOR ESTIMATING MOTION VECTOR, AND MOTION VECTOR ESTIMATION PROGRAM RECORDING MEDIUM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a calculation quantity in motion vector search while minimization of a predicted error is completely guaranteed in motion compensation (MC) in which a motion vector is expressed with small-number pixel precision.

SOLUTION: A lower limit calculation part 106 calculates a lower limit L of the predicted error with respect to the motion vector. A lower limit comparing part 107 compares the calculated lower limit L with a minimum value M of the predicted error, which is previously calculated. Only when the lower limit L is smaller, an inter-frame predicted error calculating part 108 calculates the predicted error E with respect to the motion vector of small-number pixel precision. An error comparing part 109 compares the calculated predicted error E with the minimum value M of the predicted error till then. When the predicted error E is smaller, a minimum value update part 110 sets the predicted error E to be the minimum value M of the predicted error henceforth. A motion vector estimation device 100 sets the motion vector of the predicted error which finally becomes the minimum to be the motion vector of a block being an object of coding.
