PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a microwave amplifier which can be miniaturized and distortion compensation is finely adjusted. SOLUTION: The microwave amplifier 1 performs distortion compensation of an input signal using a distortion compensator 105. The amplifier 1 also generates the distortion of the input signal using a distortion extractor 107 to extract the distortion. Residual distortion of the input of the distortion compensator can be compensated using the extracted distortion. The distortion compensator 107 has two paths. A variable attenuator 17 and a distortion generator 19 are provided on one path. A variable phase shifter 21 is provided on the other path. Signals from both the paths are composited by a fourth directional coupler 15 into one signal. The distortion extractor 107 includes a distortion generator 20 and a phase shifter 22. The distortion generators 19 and 20 generate corresponding distortion components of a driver amplifier having a MOS transistor using an amplifier comprising a bipolar transistor.
