PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkaline storage battery housing an electrode body laminated with a separator interposed between a positive electrode and a negative electrode in a battery can which is sealed by a lid material, suppressing the increase of internal temperatures caused by the heat of a gas generated therein. SOLUTION: In the alkaline storage battery in which an electrode body 1, which is laminated with a separator 1c interposed between a positive electrode 1a and a negative electrode 1b, is housed in a battery can 2 and in which this electrode can is sealed by a lid material 4, a catalyst layer 10 which absorbs gas generated in the alkaline storage battery is provided between the inner wall face 2a of the battery can and the electrode body.
