PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device allowing peripheral parts of a back substrate and a front substrate to be surely and easily sealed to each other in vacuum without needlessly heating them. SOLUTION: An oblong frame-like sealing surface 11a for sealing side walls is formed in the peripheral part of the front substrate 11 of an FED. An indium layer 32 is formed on the sealing surface 11a by interlaying a base layer 31. Electrodes 34 each used for carrying a current are connected to the four corner parts of the indium layer 32. The indium layer 32 is so formed as to gradually reduce width from nearly the center of each side part of the sealing surface 11a toward the adjacent corner parts. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
