METHOD FOR PRODUCING PRECISION PRESS MOLDING PREFORM AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING OPTICAL ELEMENT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a high-quality precision press molding preform in high productivity from P2O5-Nb2O5-Li2O glass and to provide a method for producing a high-quality glass optical element from the preform.

SOLUTION: The method is one for producing a precision press molding preform from molten glass, wherein the preform having a predetermined weight and made from an optical glass is made by molding a melt of the glass into a glass gob and etching the entire surface of the glass gob, and the above glass is P2O5-Nb2O5-Li2O glass having specified optical constants and a specified composition. The method for producing the optical element comprises heating the preform obtained by the above method and subjecting the heated preform to precision press molding.
