<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a compression image, satisfying both compression rate and sharpness feeling and texture, by solving the problem of an image compression method being used for transmitting and storing image data that generation of mosquito noise becomes conspicuous, as the compression rate is raised in the vicinity of a steep edge and sharp feeling and texture are damaged, because the edge itself cannot be reproduced accurately. <P>SOLUTION: An input image is separated into a high-frequency component and a low-frequency component, an edge is detected from the high-frequency component and subjected to frequency analysis, feature extraction and encoding. The low-frequency component is encoded independently so that a compression image satisfying both compression rate and sharpness feeling and texture is obtained. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
