<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent density irregularities which are to be caused by a load change in relation to a thermal head, a thermal printer, and a printing method employing a thermal head. <P>SOLUTION: A heating element array 14a of the thermal head consists of first-fourth heating elements 36<SB>1</SB>-36<SB>4</SB>whose positions in a subscanning direction are different by every one line. The heating elements 36<SB>1</SB>-36<SB>4</SB>are arranged in order, and its arrangement pattern is repeated in a main scanning direction. A recording area of a color thermal recording paper first reaches the first heating element 36<SB>1</SB>. Pixels corresponding to the first heating element 36<SB>1</SB>among an image of one line are recorded here. After this recording, when the color thermal recording paper is transferred by one line, pixels corresponding to the second heating element 36<SB>2</SB>are recorded by the element. Image data of one line is thus divided and recorded in four times by each of the heating elements 36<SB>1</SB>-36<SB>4</SB>.
