PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly reliable air conditioner capable of preventing compressors from being abnormally started without minimizing indoor comfortableness. SOLUTION: This air conditioner controls the operating quantity and the capacities of the compressors 4a and 4b according to the requested capacities of indoor units 3, and detects the pressure Pd of a refrigerant discharged from the compressor 4a with high priority of operating order among the compressors 4a and 4b. When two units of the compressors 4a and 4b must be operated, if the detected pressure Pd is less than a set value Pds, the compressor 4b in a stationary state is operated in the capacity maintaining state of the compressor 4a in operation. If the detection pressure Pd is equal to or more than the set value Pds, the compressor 4b in a stationary state is operated after the capacity of the compressor 4a in operation is reduced.
