GUIDE WIRE WITH RELEASABLE BARB ANCHOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hemostatic plug, generally a guide wire for closing a percutaneous puncture using collagen.

SOLUTION: An insertion guide wire 10 with an anchor 24 formed at the distal end is provided for precisely locating a subcutaneous arterial wound and guiding a plug of a hemostatic material 68 to the wound. When the hemostatic material is correctly placed, the anchor 24 is released, and the guide wire 10 is removed to leave no foreign matter in the lumen 42 of the artery 44.
