<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid the increase of the number of image files even when format types are increased. <P>SOLUTION: First and second data areas are specified in an image file. In each area, an image data record area and a header data record area are specified. At the time of reproduction, header data stored in a first header data record area located at the top are read, and first image data recorded in a first image data record area are regenerated. In the case of an image file regeneration apparatus capable of reproducing second image data recorded in a second image data area, the second image data are read from the second area and reproduced. The first image data are, for example, JPEG compression data while the second image data are non-compression data.
