PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for performing authentication to prevent contents from being illegally acquired or utilized in data processing attended with data transfer between equipment. SOLUTION: Secure authenticated channel (SAC) type information is acquired from storage data of a public key certificate of authentication party equipment, a channel type to be applied in data transfer with an authentication party is confirmed, and whether or not authentication can be established is judged based on the channel type. Confirmation of a host-device type to perform data processing to which the secure authenticated channel (SAC) is applied to perform data processing led by a host application is defined as a condition of authentication establishment. Thus, processing that, for example, an application or drive to which another type of channel is applied, includes illegal key information and establishes authentication to illegally acquire contents, can be excluded.
