PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color image reader capable of reducing the influences of power consumption and noise by reducing the number of circuits to be driven in a monochromatic reading mode. SOLUTION: A driving circuit 10, in a color reading mode, drives a plurality of all line image sensors 1R, 1G and 1B and all signal processing circuits 204, 20G and 20B corresponding to the line image sensors, and in the monochromatic reading mode, drives only the line image sensor 1G and the signal processing circuit 20G corresponding to the line image sensor 1G and does not drive the other line image sensors 1R and 1B and the signal processing circuits 20R and 20B corresponding to the line image sensors, by the command of a power control circuit 11.
