A process for producing aromatic ring alkylated phenols, wherein said process comprises reacting a phenol represented by the general formula (1): wherein each of R<1>, R<2>, R<3>, R<4> and R<5> independently represents a hydrogen atom, or a linear or branched alkyl group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms; with a monohydric or dihydric alcohol in the presence of a hydroxide of a metal, an alkoxide of a metal, or a hydroxide of a metal and an alkoxide of a metal in a supercritical state of the alcohol.
