A hydraulic machine has a hydraulic pressure limiting valve. The hydraulic system exerts a pressure p1 in a chamber (2) with a flow passage (4) adjacent to a valve seat (5). The housing has a sliding valve body (6) and forms a pressure-sealed chamber for a valve spring (21). The spring chamber is linked to the chamber (2) via a pressure compensation hole (9). The valve spring tension is screw (18) adjustable. The valve has a further external valve spring (22). Both springs put closing tension on the valve. On reaching the maximum value of p1 the valve (6) lifts from the valve seat (5) to allow hydraulic fluid to flow from the chamber (2) through the valve chamber (3).
