The drive includes a chain guide (3) which is magnetic so that the chain is kept in close contact with it. The guide has two end regions extending around at least part of the chain which are more magnetic than an intermediate guide region extending between a chain pick-up region of a chain wheel (6) and a chain drop-off region of the same wheel. At least one chain guide is located between the drive wheel and slave wheel.
