<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus obtaining a stable image of high quality by preventing color shift due to the thermal expansion of an intermediate transfer body driving roller, the increase of the color shift at continuously printing after correcting the registration, and also, by preventing the reduction of a throughput and the increase of toner consumption due to the registration correction. <P>SOLUTION: The apparatus is provided with: an image reading means for reading the surface image on the intermediate transfer body; an image storage means for storing at least one image out of the images read by the image reading means; a calculating means for calculating the moving velocity of the intermediate transfer body with the images read by the image reading means and the image stored by the image storage means; and a motor rotation control means for controlling the rotating velocity of the intermediate transfer body driving motor from the calculation result by the calculating means.
