摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for generating continuous tera-hertz electromagnetic waves, by which continuous Terahertz electromagnetic waves that can be easily changed in frequency and has coherent frequency characteristics and a strong radiant intensity can be generated. SOLUTION: The continuous tera-hertz electromagnetic wave generating device G has a high-temperature superconductor 1, in which a superconductive layer 4 and an insulator layer 5 are laminated on each other in a first direction. The device G is provided with external magnetic field adding devices 14 and 14', which add external magnetic fields to the high-temperature superconductor 1 in the direction perpendicular to the first direction, and a DC power source 12 which makes a direct current flow to the superconductor 1 in the first direction. The device makes Josephson plasma oscillates, which is generated in the high-temperature superconductor 1 and contains less longitudinal wave components in the first direction and no node from the end face 8 of the superconductor 1, by adjusting the voltage and current amount of the superconductor 1, by utilizing the electrical resistance of the insulator layer 4 and the electromotive force induced by the motion of the magnetic flux of an external magnetic field.
