THERMO-OPTICAL OPTICAL FUNCTIONAL COMPONENT AND ITS CONTROL METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a thermo-optical optical functional component having a thermo-optical optical function element and an optical functional element whose optical characteristic depends upon temperature on the same substrate or the same composite substrate varies in optical function as the temperature of the whole circuit varies with the change in electric power applied to the thermo-optical optical functional element for controlling the optical function.

SOLUTION: Dummy thin film heaters 5a to 5d are formed on the same substrate with thermo-optical optical functional elements 6a to 6o and, for example, electric power applied to the dummy thin film heaters 5a to 5d is so adjusted that the sum of electric power applied to the thermo-optical optical functional elements 6a to 6d for controlling the optical function and electric power applied to the dummy thin film heaters 5a to 5d is held constant.
