PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a polyester which neither lowers the quality and quality level of the obtained polymer nor retards the depolymerization reaction time, when recycling, as a raw material for the polyester, a distillate having a glycol component as the major component recovered in depolymerization and polymerization reaction without subjecting it to purification by distillation. SOLUTION: In the method for manufacturing the polyester by feeding, as the raw materials, the glycol and a polyester obtained from ethylene terephthalate as the major component to a batch type reactor to perform depolymerization, and thereafter performing polymerization, out of the glycol distillate formed in the depolymerization and/or polymerization reaction, the distillate formed in a predetermined time after starting the initial distillation is removed, and the subsequent glycol distillate as such is used as a raw material.
