The present invention relates to methods for screening for agents that bind to and modulate the cystathionine â-synthase domains of the gamma subunit such as are found on AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK. Such agents which bind AMPK are candidates for use in the treatment of for example: diabetes, obesity, hyperlipidaemia and heart disease including cardiomyopathies caused by AMPK mutations.
