The area (1) underneath the door of a lorry is fitted with three steps (3a, 3b, 3c) forming a plane surface in combination with the surrounding body part (4) when the door is closed. As soon as the driver enters the top step (3a) hydraulic fluid (6) is moved downwards and the lower steps (3b, 3c) extended horizontally. There could also be a mechanism acting on each of the steps (3a, 3b, 3c) separately. After use the steps (3a, 3b, 3c) are returned to their former position automatically by a suitable system.
