Electric arc spraying in which a current is passed between two electrode wires which produces an arc to melt the electrode wires and the melted wire is sprayed onto the surface to be coated with the aid of a transport gas. The voltage between the wires is at least 20% less than the conventional spraying voltage and is so directed that the arc is not broken. Independent claims are included for: (1) an electric arc system including a current source and a spray gun with an electrode wire supply system as described above; (2) A surface coating obtained by the process.
