摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide stably a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery in which the excellent characteristic inherent in Ni compound is made use of by prescribing the surface condition of the Ni compound and using the compound meeting the prescriptions in the positive electrode active material of the secondary battery. <P>SOLUTION: The non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery has the positive electrode active material in which a compound is used as expressed by the general formula Li<SB>a</SB>Ni<SB>x</SB>Co<SB>y</SB>Al<SB>z</SB>O<SB>2</SB>, provided that 0.3&le;a&le;1.05, 0.7&le;x&le;0.87, 0.1&le;y&le;0.27, 0.02&le;z&le;0.1, and 0.98&le;x+y+z&le;1.02, wherein on the compound surface, the oxygen 1s spectrum according to the X-ray photo-electron spectrometry measured on the condition of 15kV-15mA in the condition 0.8&le;a&le;1.05 has such a characteristic that the ratio Ia/Ib is 0.5 or more, where Ia represents the intensity at the peak having its apex between 528-531 eV while Ib does the intensity at the peak having its apex between 531-533 eV. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
