<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce exhaust pressure loss, enhance a cell density and improve cleaning activity. <P>SOLUTION: A catalyst layer 2 is formed on at least the inside of macro pores 11 of a honeycomb base material 1 which has the macro pores 11 on cell walls 10 and contains an oxide having micro pores.
