<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that the conventional photocatalysts has a slow deodorizing speed compared with the adsorbents, the thermocatalysts or the like and further slower deodorizing speed especially under the dry condition with changes in the deodorizing speed substantially attributed to the moisture under the application environment. <P>SOLUTION: The deodorant has a base material 1 caused to heat by the electric energization and an irradiation means 2 which irradiates the base material 1 with the light containing the ultraviolet rays piercing a part or the whole thereof. A layer containing a substance having a photocatalytic action and a moisture absorbent is formed on the surface of the base material 1 while the electric energization and the non-electric energization of the base materia 1 are repeated alternately so that the moisture scattered in the atmospheric air is automatically gathered and is discharged collectively indoors at the fixed timing thereby enabling the removal of the attached odor overcoming its difficulty in the past.
