PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup system capable of easily performing monitoring about security even in a general house by configuring so that an information recording and reproducing device is added with a security function. SOLUTION: When a sensor 7 of a camera 1 detects a moving object, a mode determining means 34, in the information recording and reproducing device 2, determines whether to be in a security priority mode in response to the moving object when the information recording and reproducing device 2 is in the middle of video recording or video recording reserving. In the case of being in the security priority mode, a video recording releasing means 35 releases video recording during video recording or a video recording reservation during video recording reserving. When the power in which the power is determined to be turned off is turned on, when the information recording and reproducing device 2 is not in the middle of video recording or video recording reserving, or when the video recording during video recording or the video recording reservation during video recording reserving is released, an image pickup signal from the camera 1 is transmitted to the information recording and reproducing device 2 and pick-up images are recorded in a recording medium 30.
