PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in which exciting coil can be used by a simple, inexpensive construction without causing the coil to exceed the heat resistant temperature of the covering of the coil. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes an image forming means for forming images on a sheet material, an induction heat system fixing means for heat-fixing the images formed on the sheet material, a power detecting means for detecting power inputted to the fixing means, and a calculating means for calculating the value of power detected by the power detecting means. In the image forming apparatus, the value calculated by the calculating means and a specific value set in advance are compared and the power inputted to the fixing means is decreased when the value calculated is larger than the specific value.
