PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrially suitable method for producing an optically active 1-cycloalkyl-2-propyn-1-ol. SOLUTION: This method for producing the compound represented by the general formula (I) (R1is a 3 to 10C-membered cycloalkyl; * represents a carbon atom having either of S and R-configurations) comprises a process for treating a compound represented by the general formula (II) (R1is a 3 to 10C-membered cycloalkyl; R2is an alkyl which may have one or more substituents and an aryl which may have one or more substituents; the carbon atom represented by ** is not optically pure) with the cells of a microorganism belonging to the genus Corynebacterium, Bacillus or the like, the culture product of the cells, their treated product or their extract.
