A paper capable of moisture absorption and desorption that simultaneously exhibits high moisture absorption and desorption performance and high dimensional stability. There is provided a paper capable of moisture absorption and desorption comprised of a fiber having a crosslinked structure and 1 to 10 mmol/g of an acid group, the acid group having 1 mmol/g or more of ions of at least one metal selected from the group consisting of Li, Na, K, Mg and Ca linked thereto, together with an inorganic fiber and a pulp fiber, characterized in that the paper is one produced by preparing a water base slurry containing the fiber having a crosslinked structure and an acid group, inorganic fiber and pulp fiber with the use of water of 1 ppm or less cation concentration excluding the metal ions linked to the acid group and forming the water base slurry into a paper.
