The tool is designed as a bar to be used as a sliding rail (12) with a combined stationary jaw and spreading element (20, 22, 24) located at its front end and a combined movable jaw and spreading element (34, 36, 38) to be slid along the rail (12) when a spring supported lever (90, 92) is operated. A mechanism comprising a movable positioning element (52) fitted with two control elements (70, 72) determines the use of the tool either in a spreading or a clamping mode.
