System and process for packet switching between agents

The method involves sending a message from initiator agents (1-4) e.g. central processing units, to intermediate agents (5-18) e.g. switches. The agents (5-18) have an error detection unit for marking the message as an erroneous message if the address specified in the message does not correspond to a routing table. The message is forwarded to destination agents (19-24) that process and forward an error indication to the agents (1-4). An independent claim is also included for a system for communication between agents in a point to point interconnection system.
