An extrusion die has a melt channel (3) formed between a central spigot (2) and an outer housing (1). The end of the melt channel (3) is extended at the circular exit (4) by an extension piece (5), which is made of material with a thermal conductivity below 50 W/m*K, preferably below 10 W/m*K. The extension can be of the same or a different cross-section than the main channel (3) and can be a retrofit item.
