An adjustable table uses an actuating mechanism 7 which comprises an inner tube 11 telescopically arranged within an outer tube 17, a gas strut 23 co-axially arranged within the inner tube and operable to facilitate movement of the inner tube 11 relative to the outer tube 17, and a supporting means, attached to the inner tube 11, which acts to assist in the relative movement of the telescopic tubes 11, 17. The supporting means may comprise one or more sets of rollers which may contact an inner surface 25 of the outer tube 17.
